History of our Vineyards

The vineyards of Telavi Wine Cellar are stretched along Alazani Valley, which is situated at 200-500 m above the sea level, divided by the Alazani river and guarded by the great Caucasian mountains from one hand and the Tsiv-Gombori mountain range from the other.

Mountain range and the river carve the valley into seven main vine-growing Appellations of Kakheti: Tsinandali, Vazisubani, Akhasheni , Mukuzani, Napareuli, Kvareli and Kindzmarauli.

According to the combination of soil, location and climate we have planted appropriate, original Georgian grapes: Saperavi, Mujuretuli, Usakhelauri, Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Qisi as well as the imported varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Chardonnay.

Geographical location, the cycle of warm days and cool nights, create an environment where grapes can mature slowly but steadily on the vines developing balanced acidity, ripeness of tannins, high sugar and a great complexity fl avour.
